Video Killed the Radio Star

The video is obviously about the future. It’s downplaying the radio’s importance now that videos can be seen on TV instead. The lyrics, to me, imply that whoever “you” is isn’t going to be famous anymore. I think this because it say, “You are a radio star. Video killed the radio star.” The term killed shouldn’t be taken literal just metaphoric to fame being killed.
The first thing I thought about the actual video is that the song was really catchy. I didn’t understand why the girl in the video was dancing in a tube. The lyrics didn’t really go along with what they were doing. How can you really act out the lyrics, “Video killed the radio star?” Maybe the tube represented confinement. In the sense that radio media is confined now that videos are available.
