Here's the Red Hot Chili Peppers' music video for their song "Californication" (released in 2000-ish). The song itself is a classic but I really enjoy the video because they create a video game-ish world set in California and each of the characters runs through a different part, so there's the redwoods, the mountains, the ocean, San Francisco, LA and a lot of other stuff, but it's all animation, and pretty... basic. As in, there's not a lot of detail anywhere (except maybe when Flea's in the forest), but after learning a little bit in Maya, I feel like the characters are at the level of animation where we could probably model them without a lot of difficulty. Plus it's cool to see how far animation has come in the last ten years, with this video so much more simple than what we see on a regular basis now
